Battles of Khalkhin Gol or the Nomonhan Incident.
Soviet Union versus Japan
A series of conflicts between the Soviet Union and Japan that take place in the summer of 1939 along the border between Mongolia and Manchuria (northeastern China). The conflict escalates when the Japanese Kwantung Army launches a major offensive into Mongolia.

The Japanese offensive in the Battles of Khalkhin Gol begins in early July 1939, and they deploy a force of approximately 38,000 men, along with tanks, artillery, and air support. Their goal is to seize control of the disputed border region and assert dominance over Mongolia.

The Soviet Red Army, led by General Georgy Zhukov, along with Mongolian and Soviet-Mongolian forces, oppose the Japanese invasion. The battles that follow are intense and include both ground combat and aerial engagements. The Soviet forces ultimately prevail in the conflict, and the Japanese are forced to withdraw in September 1939.
The Battles of Khalkhin Gol have several important consequences, including the signing of a ceasefire agreement in September and a subsequent border agreement between Japan and the Soviet Union. It also plays a role in influencing Japan’s strategic decisions in the lead-up to World War II, as the defeat at Khalkhin Gol contributes to Japan’s decision to pursue expansion into Southeast Asia and the Pacific rather than continue its confrontation with the Soviet Union.

The Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland (Reich Association of Jews in Germany) is established as the sole legal Jewish organization in Germany.
Germany, Holocaust
The Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland (Reich Association of Jews in Germany) is established as the sole legal Jewish organisation in Germany. This organisation is created by the Nazi with the goal of centralizing and controlling the Jewish community in Germany according to Nazi policies. It effectively replaces all other Jewish organisations and institutions that exist at the time.

The Reichsvereinigung is not a representative body of the Jewish community but rather an instrument of Nazi persecution and control over the Jewish population. Its leaders are often coerced or forced to cooperate with Nazi authorities in implementing anti-Jewish measures, including the enforcement of discriminatory laws, confiscation of Jewish property, and facilitating deportations to concentration camps.

This organisation is part of the broader systematic persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany, which ultimately leads to the Holocaust, the genocide in which millions of Jews are murdered during World War II. The Reichsvereinigung, despite its establishment as a legal entity, is an instrument of oppression and plays a tragic role in the history of the Holocaust.

Daily Telegraph is beginning a campaign to give Winston Churchill a position in the British cabinet
Great Britain, Politics
The Daily Telegraph is beginning a campaign to give Winston Churchill a position in the British cabinet. The News Chronicle, The Yorkshire Post, The Observer, and Picture Post are also joining the campaign. This collective effort reflects a growing sentiment among these publications and segments of the public that Churchill’s leadership and political experience are needed during these challenging times. They see him as a figure who can contribute significantly to the British government, especially as Europe faces the growing threat of World War II.
