Members of the UTPI (Unité de Tradition Peloton d’Instruction) of the Battalion. This unit will form the Bataillon de Choc and Commandos of France.
The men from the Bataillon de Choc graduate as parachutists with 4 jumps, the instruction is done by American instructors.

A greatt number of Corsican Patriots joined the Bataillon de Choc. They formed the 4e Compagnie. Note he is wearing the “Moor’s head” armband.

Aspirant Jean Michel Michelin (in the center with cap) is discussing the situation with the Corsican patriots. He had escaped from the Algiers hospital to clandestinely board the Subamrine Casabianca. He died on September 22nd, 1943, during an ambush one day later leading his group at Conca, Corsica.

Operation Dragoon, August 1944
François Gilbert (French flag), 1er Company 1er Choc Section, assigned to the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion during Operation Dragoon.
Corporal Claude Jacquemet (1er Compagnie, 4e Choc Section) jumped with the 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion of the 2nd Airborne Brigade. Here he is at the end of August 1944, he swapped his English Denison for a U.S. jump jacket.

The city of Belfort was liberated between November 18th, 1944 and November 21st, 1944 by the 1st Army, under the command of the VII American Army.
